Escape the crowded 50 person cruise line tours and join us on our Best of Florence & Pisa Tour!
Our tour will start when you are met at the cruise terminal our assistant will be waiting for you! (Pick up location depends on the option selected ) Here you will jump on aboard our air conditioned vehicle for about 90/100 minute drive to Florence.
Upon arrival in Florence, we will start the tour showing you the highlights of this magical city. First stop will be Piazza del Duomo (Cathedral Square). The Duomo of Florence is dedicated to Santa Maria del Fiore a typical building of Italian Gothic architecture. This breathtaking monument was designed by one of the most famous architect of Florence, Arnolfo di Cambio. The Cupola (the Dome) remained for many years unfinished, and just in 1421 the polygonal base was erected and accomplished. Two architects won the competition to design the dome, Lorenzo Ghiberti (1368-1445) and Filippo Brunelleschi (1377-1446), but it was Filippo Brunelleschi who actually built it using remarkable (as still difficult to know) technical knowledge to achieve the uniquely beautiful results we see today. Completed in 1436, the Cupola is the most characteristic feature of the Florentine skyline, symbolizing a great cultural tradition and the city’s civic awareness.
You will continue to visit Signoria Square (Piazza della Signoria), which has been the political heart of the city from the Middle Ages to the present day. The piazza is named after the most important monument there, Palazzo della Signoria, designed by Arnolfo di Cambio in 1298-99 for the seat of the Republican government and which was later to host the Gonfalonier of Justice and the Priors of the Arts (it was in fact first called Palazzo dei Priori). Piazza della Signoria is a breathtaking outdoor museum, get your camera ready to shoot hundreds of pictures!
Nearby Piazza Signoria you will have the opportunity to visit the Ponte Vecchio, the oldest bridge of Florence (1345) which crosses the Arno at its widest point. It dates back to Roman times and has been re-built on several occasions, due to floods and wars. The last stop will be in the Square of Santa Croce (Holy Cross), one of Florence’s largest squares, and traditionally one of the city’s main arenas for markets and special events such as concerts and medieval shows. The Basilica of Santa Croce, one of the largest churches in the city, is attributed to the genius of Arnolfo di Cambio who seems to have begun work in 1294. A unique church that will capture your sight with its stunning details and contrasts. Note: Admission fee is not included in the tour price.
Later on we will depart to Pisa. Once in Pisa, you will have approximately 1 hour to walk from the parking area (and back) to the Field of Miracles where you will have free time for photos of the famous Leaning Tower, Duomo, Baptistery and Monumental Cemetery.
Please Note: If less than 9 people are on your tour you will travel in a small vehicle with excellent access to all sights and your tour will be led by a guide who is also your driver. If more than 9 people are on your tour, you will travel in a van or minibus that will include a separate driver and guide.
